As a neutral sizing agent of an AKD emulsion, it is very effective and has considerable shelf life and its hydrolysis can usually be avoided during storage. It can react with the cellulose during paper drying with the formation of beta-ketoesters. Its hydrophobic group creates the low-energy surface on paper during drying and to some extent afterwards.

As a colloidally stabilised rosin based dispersion, it is used for wet-end or size press sizing and it is a cationic resin in character. The highly fortified rosins in it have been formulated to give a one-shot sizing product that is delivered ready for use. It is normally used at its delivered solids content without furthur dilution and used in various paper making process such as printing paper, liner paper and corrugating medium, etc.
